Black Tie Wedding Guest Dresses

Last month I wrote a post about choosing a dress to wear as a guest attending a wedding. It can become a stressful decision if you find yourself wondering whether to wear long or short, embellishments or lace, colors or neutrals. One thing I mentioned was being sure to check the location of the venue on the invitation, as that can dictate what the attire will require. However, even more important than that is to look for some fine print at the bottom of the invitation that might read "Black tie Optional" or "Black tie". Today's post is dedicated to finding the perfect dress to wear to a black tie wedding.

Typically black tie insinuates wearing a floor-length dress, however that's not always the case. Some women prefer to wear cocktail dresses, and that's okay too! If you opt for a shorter dress, try something with more embellishments to elevate your look (I love these styles here, here and here), with a dressier heel and clutch. If you plan to wear a short dress, make sure your accessory game is on point, since those will help pull your look together and make it more elegant. You can also choose to do a high-low hem dress (floral option here), which will still look formal without wearing a completely floor-length dress.

Now if you're like me, seeing the words black tie make you squeal with excitement because it's an excuse to go shopping and pick out a beautiful, new dress! I found this BCBG dress last year, and sadly it is no longer available, but there is a very similar dress in two beautiful colors here and here. BCBG has so many other beautiful gown options on their website, and everything is 30% off right now! What initially drew me to this dress was it's striking, sapphire hue. Even though this is the color of my birthstone, it's not a color I normally gravitate to, but when I saw it on this beauty of a dress I couldn't resist! Naturally, my second favorite thing about this dress is the slit; it's a little bit sexy while still being classy. I mean, why not show some leg!?

Your accessories will come into play once you choose the dress. If you're wearing a glitzy dress, maybe play down your accessories slightly by going for a simple nude or black heel, and more dainty jewelry so you don't overpower the dress. If your dress is like mine and lacking in embellishments, you can add that element in your look with your clutch for example! With a strapless dress, I prefer to keep the neckline open and go for more of a statement earring. You can also go more bold with your shoes and do a metallic heel or something with fun embellishments!

No matter what you end up wearing, the most important thing is to find something you feel comfortable and confident in. Now the only thing left to do is celebrate the happy couple and dance the night away! I hope you found these tips helpful, and as always, thank you so much for stopping by! Happy Fri-yay! xo

Blushfully,

Belle
